Higsons Beer Mats

can you help settle an argument that the Liverpool Brewers once ran a advertising campaign on thier beers mats using the names of Liverpool streets.

High Park Street Reservoir

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just returned from a visit to Liverpool 8.

Near to Park Strreet Job Centre was a red stone construction that looked at least one hundred years old.

I thought it might be a water resevoir. The structure was about the size of a football pitch - and at one corner it had a tower abour 20/30 feet high.

A Liver Bird was carved over the metal door.

Can anyone tell me what this structure was originally built for, when and who by?

United States Rest Camp at Knotty Ash, Springfield Park

Can anyone help with the location of the United States Rest Camp at Knotty Ash used during the First World War. One report said that the troops left the train at K A station and walked a quarter of a mile to " an oasis of tents." Were there barrack buildings there as well as my grandfather was there in 1918 awaiting a ship for Cananda with his new bride.Could the site have been in the grounds of Thingwall House?

Alhambra public house

Hi there

I'm not sure if I am sending my enquiry to the correct email address. If not, perhaps you would be kind enough to forward it the correct address.

I vaguely remember as a small child spending part of the war years in a public house down by Liverpool docks called the Alhambra. I can remember being told by my mother that we were there during the very heavy bombing raids on Liverpool, and use to take cover in the cellar !! The landlady at the time was Bessie Hatfield (or Worrall) who was my great Aunt. I think she was a widow who had two daughters living with her called Joan and Betty Worrall.

I would be really pleased to receive any historical information you may have in respect of this public house, and also whether or not it is still standing today.

Gomersall/Gomersal House and Moirs Wavertree

Hello,

I am trying to locate or find out if there was a house that might have been a boarding house in the Wavertree area in the 1900s, between 1901 and 1907 called Gomersall/Gomersal House. I think that my grandmother was employed as a house keeper there.

Also location of a grocers shop, Moirs also in the Wavertree area.

Deysbrook Community Centre up to about 1970

I am doing my family tree, and I am finding it hard to get intouch with anyone who worked at the deysbrook community centre up to about 1970.

My Great Grandfather used to do some work there and he met his second wife Florence, but cannot seem to find out who she was, they married when he was about 70, but since then they have both died and the centre has shut down, could you possibly help in any way at all?
